In the 9th and 8th centuries two separate waves immigrated to Anatolia from Greece resulting in the establishment of many cities and civilisations, 100 of which can be found within the boundaries of Antalya.
Following the first world war,Antalya was occupied on April 29th 1919 by the Italians and it was during this occupation that efforts were made to avoid any clashes between the locals and the occupying force. Antalya provided man power and funds on the western front to support the War of Independence and it is known that the Italians assisted the Turks, in particular with intelligence.
It was in early 1921 that the Italians began to withdraw and by 5th July 1921,Antalya was completely free of the Italian occupation. |
